Hong Kong, China bring Asian Games core to Hong Kong Sixes after rain-hit exit against Pakistan

Hong Kong, Oct 6 (UNI) Hong Kong, China will bring the same core that represented the hosts at the Asian Games 2026 to the Hong Kong Sixes 2026, from October 30 to November 1 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground.
Hong Kong, China advanced to the Asian Games quarter-finals after a 41-run victory over Oman, only for their campaign to end without a ball being bowled when persistent rain washed out their last-eight clash against Pakistan, with Pakistan progressing based on their higher ICC ranking.
Returning to home soil with the same experienced group, the hosts will now look to channel that disappointment into a strong campaign at the Hong Kong Sixes.

Led by all-rounder Yasim Murtaza, the squad features vice-captain Babar Hayat, wicketkeeper-batter Anshuman Rath, and Ehsan Khan, Mohammad Aizaz Khan, Mohammad Nizakat Khan and Nasrulla Rana.

The Hong Kong, China squad, coached by Kaushal Silva, comprises of: Yasim Murtaza (Captain) Babar Hayat (Vice-Captain) Anshuman Rath (Wicketkeeper) Ehsan Khan Aizaz Khan Nizakat Khan Nasrulla Rana.

Several members of the squad also have considerable experience of the Hong Kong Sixes, having featured prominently in the 2025 edition, when Hong Kong, China won the Plate Final against Bangladesh.

Aizaz Khan was instrumental in that victory, producing one of the standout individual performances of the tournament with an unbeaten 85 off 21 balls as Hong Kong, China secured a thrilling one-wicket win.

That experience will be valuable for a side returning to a format that demands immediate impact, with players required to adapt quickly to the six-over-a-side structure.

Hong Kong, China will face Australia and England in Pool A, setting up two high-profile contests at the start of their home campaign. The hosts will look to use their familiarity with the conditions and support of the home crowd as they take on two strong international sides in a format where momentum can change rapidly.

The 2026 edition of the Hong Kong Sixes will also mark the first edition with JSW Sports as Commercial Partner, representing the organization’s first partnership with an international
sporting property.

With an experienced home squad, a strong connection to the tournament and an opportunity to move forward from an unfinished Asian Games campaign, Hong Kong, China will enter the competition with plenty to play for when the action gets underway on October 30.

S Gandhi, Director of Cricket and Chief Selector, Cricket Hong Kong, China, said: “The Hong Kong Sixes is a special tournament for us, and having our home team return with a strong and experienced core makes this year’s edition even more exciting. After a disappointing end to our Asian Games campaign, where rain brought our quarter-final to a premature close without a ball being bowled, the team will be eager to bounce back on home soil. With the support of our fans and the unique intensity of the Sixes format, we are looking forward to an exciting tournament and hope Hong Kong, China can make a strong run this year.”

The Hong Kong Sixes returns from October 30 to November 1 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, with the action to be broadcast live in India on Sony Sports Network.
