Hyd: Owaisi, Jamiat Delegation Seek Centre's Intervention in Race Course Masjid Issue

Hyderabad, Oct 20 (UNI) AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and a delegation of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind have urged union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to intervene in the Race Course Masjid issue and halt the proposed demolition, citing the mosque's status as a gazetted Waqf property since 1977.
The Land and Development Office (L&DO) reportedly issued a six-day notice directing the occupants to vacate the premises, while electricity and water connections to the mosque were also reportedly disconnected.
In a post on X, Owaisi alleged that the Waqf Board had failed to challenge the demolition order or take steps to resolve the issue despite the mosque being a gazetted Waqf property since 1977.
He contended that the mosque was protected under the Waqf Amendment Act as a property classified as “Waqf by user” and questioned the failure of the authorities concerned to intervene.
Owaisi also pointed out that the Delhi Waqf Board had not been constituted since 2023, arguing that the union Minister should step in to address the matter.
He added that the Board's Chief Executive Officer could also have intervened but had failed to do so.
The AIMIM chief urged Rijiju to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and protect the mosque's interests.
