YSRCP demands inquiry by HC sitting Judge into police firing on nominations day

Vijayawada, Oct 20 (UNI) The Opposition YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into police firing in Pulivendula during the filing of nominations alleging that officers opened fire without provocation.

Addressing the media here, YSRCP State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy allged that the Chandrababu Naidu government was preventing nominations, coercing withdrawals and engineering rejections before celebrating “unopposed victories” and declared that attacks, intimidation and criminal cases would not force YSRCP out of elections.
“The YSRCP candidates were attacked and the police fired into the air while shielding TDP groups. This organised intimidation required judicial scrutiny and immediate SEC intervention,” he said but vowed to continue the legal battle to expose the government’s failures and stand collectively against obstruction.
The YSRCP leader cited the use of the Preventive Detention Act against senior Dalit leader Rajaiah in Duggirala, within Minister Lokesh’s Mangalagiri constituency, to prevent his participation in the forthcoming MPP election. Caste and no-dues certificates were being delayed, while candidates faced threats even after filing. In Tirupati, candidate J.B. Srinivas was threatened at his home by a Jana Sena candidate’s husband, he charged.

In Kadapa, the police stopped around 40–50 prospective candidates, while 10–12 nominations were rejected, he regretted adding that the mayoral candidate’s residence was attacked on Monday night to force withdrawal, while Deputy Mayor Nithyananda Reddy faced an attempt-to-murder case.
He alleged that two attempt-to-murder cases in Pulivendula were filed against Raghava Reddy and others, with 921 grassroots leaders facing cases intended to keep them away from municipal, MPTC and ZPTC elections.
In Rayachoti, Srikanth Reddy’s office was set on fire but counter-cases were registered against 300 people. Similar non-bailable cases were foisted in Kadapa and Darsi, he alleged and said that candidates in Chittoor recorded videos against forged or coerced withdrawals. Mr. Reddy accused the police of obstructing nominations in Pulivendula.
“We will move forward, contest wherever possible and respect the people’s verdict. Seats secured through intimidation cannot establish public support,” he added.
