Hyderabad cybercrime police arrest two for supplying mule accounts linked to 450 Cases Nationwide

Hyderabad, Oct 11 (UNI) Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have arrested two persons for allegedly supplying bank accounts and SIM cards to cybercriminals in exchange for commissions, police said on Sunday.
The arrests are linked to a fraud in which a victim was cheated of Rs. 7.93 lakh on the pretext of purchasing an old one-rupee currency note for Rs. 45 lakh, said S. Chaitanya Kumar, in-charge Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad, in a release.
The accused, Gumma Ramesh, 39, and Mudale Anil, 19, both residents of Ramanthapur, were apprehended on October 8. Police seized two mobile phones from them.
According to police, Ramesh and an absconding associate allegedly induced around 60–70 people, including students and delivery partners, to provide their bank accounts and SIM cards for commissions.
They allegedly collected bank passbooks, ATM/debit cards, internet banking credentials and SIM cards and couriered them to associates in Haryana for use in cyber fraud.
Police suspect that the network is linked to around 450 cases registered across the country, involving transactions estimated at Rs. 60–70 crore.
The case came to light after the victim lodged a complaint on September 25, stating that unknown persons had promised to pay Rs. 45 lakh for an old one-rupee currency note and collected Rs. 7,93,351.
A case was registered under Sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act and Sections 318(4), 319(2), 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police said Ramesh, who had earlier lived in Karnataka’s Bidar district, moved to Hyderabad with his family due to financial difficulties and worked as a driver for Rapido and Uber.
He allegedly came into contact with cyber fraudsters and began arranging bank accounts and SIM cards for them.
Anil allegedly opened three savings bank accounts in different banks and handed over the account-related credentials to Ramesh in return for commissions.
The accused allegedly told investigators that they knowingly supplied the accounts and SIM cards for use in cybercrimes in exchange for money.
The arrests were made by Inspector M. Surendar and his team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police R.G. Siva Maruthi.
S. Chaitanya Kumar, in-charge Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad, issued the statement.
