IAC chief rejects Rahul Gandhi's allegation over Maha Assembly elections

Pune, Jun 7 (UNI) National president of India Against Corruption (IAC), Hemant Patil, here on Saturday dismissed the statement made by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, regarding 'electoral fraud' in the Maharashtra Assembly elections in a newspaper article, terming it as 'baseless'.
The remark by Rahul Gandhi on the Maharashtra elections is an attempt to cast doubt on transparent electoral system of the country, he said.
The statement made by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha without any proof can create confusion among the countrymen, he noted.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that there was widespread fraud in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held in 2024, but he did not provide any evidence in this regard in an article written in a newspaper, he said.
Rubbishing Rahul Gandhi's claim that the voting percentage in Maharashtra has suddenly increased by 7.83 percent after the assembly elections, the IAC chief explained that it takes time to get the final voting percentage during elections in any state, hence, no statistics can be accepted until the last voter has voted.
He pointed that the Opposition leader has made usual political allegations of unilateral election commissioner selection, fake voters, fake voting, target booth rigging and CCTV evidence being hidden in the election.
In such a situation, to raise doubt about the sudden increase in voting percentage is wrong, he argued.
Patil contended that Rahul Gandhi has made these allegations only to create confusion among the public against the (Narendra) Modi government at the Centre and as a political conspiracy ahead of upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra, he added.
