IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe urges youth to think beyond social media reels

Pune, Oct 18 (UNI) IAS officer and Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe on Sunday urged young people to move beyond endless scrolling on social media and develop the ability to think independently, question information and exercise sound judgment.
Speaking at the Global Maratha Business Expo, Mundhe said that while the digital age has made vast amounts of information readily accessible, the ability to analyse it critically and distinguish between information and knowledge is becoming increasingly important.
He cautioned that excessive screen time and the constant consumption of short-form content could affect concentration and make it difficult for young people to focus on a subject for extended periods.
Mundhe urged the youth to use social media judiciously, develop their own identities and work hard to achieve their goals.
Mundhe cautioned against accepting information as true merely because it appeared repeatedly on social media or blindly following trends. Instead, he encouraged young people to examine information, ask questions and make decisions based on their own understanding.
He also warned against excessive dependence on social media algorithms, which often expose users to content that reinforces their existing interests and preferences. Such patterns, he suggested, could narrow their outlook and limit their exposure to diverse perspectives.
Emphasising the need for a broader outlook, Mundhe urged young people to step outside their comfort zones, explore subjects beyond their immediate interests and remain willing to work hard to achieve their goals.
