IGCAR hosts 34th Prof. Brahm Prakash Memorial Materials Quiz at Kalpakkam

Chennai, Sep 20 (UNI) The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, in association with the Indian Institute
of Metals (IIM) Kalpakkam Chapter, organized the 34th Prof. Brahm Prakash Memorial Materials Quiz (BPMMQ–2026) at the DAE Convention Centre, Anupuram, on September 18–19.
An IGCAR release said the national event brought together 43 student teams, comprising 86 higher secondary students and 30 escorting teachers and parents from across India, to foster awareness of materials science and nuclear technology.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Anish Kumar, Director, Metallurgy & Materials Group and Materials Science Group, BPMMQ. As
part of the two-day program, students participated in an Elocution Contest on emerging technological themes and visited the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) and Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) during the 'Metal Camp' segment.
Addressing the gathering, Sreekumar G. Pillai, Director, IGCAR, highlighted Kalpakkam's unique nuclear facilities, including FBTR, KAMINI, and the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR), along with societal initiatives in radiopharmaceuticals and hydrogen production.
Dr. Komal Kapoor, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) and President of IIM, delivered the Prof. Brahm Prakash Memorial Lecture, encouraging students to pursue careers in advanced manufacturing, automation, and robotics.
Following a Grand Finale conducted by quizmaster Dr. Sumanth C. Raman, Sachin K. K. and Jayasree J. secured the top prize in the quiz, while Sriman Mishra won the Elocution Contest.
