India’s Great Knowledge Tradition Is Our Identity: Governor Kavinder Gupta

Dharamshala, Sep 20 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta said that India’s ancient knowledge tradition, spiritual consciousness and culture of service constituted the country’s identity and had an important role to play in the welfare of the world.
Addressing the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav at Chinmaya Tapovan Ashram, Sandeepani Himalayas, Siddhbari, on Saturday evening, the Governor said the Chinmaya Mission’s 75-year journey had made a significant contribution to preserving and promoting India’s spiritual and cultural traditions.
He said the teachings of Swami Chinmayananda had connected people in India and abroad with Indian philosophy, culture and spiritual life.
Referring to the ideals of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah”, Gupta said India’s eternal consciousness had always advocated the welfare of the entire world.
“Knowledge leads us to truth, devotion instils faith and humility, while service takes us from ‘I’ to ‘we’. This approach provides the strength to take society and the nation forward,” he said.
The Governor said that while science and technology had brought unprecedented changes to human life, modern development must go hand in hand with cultural traditions and human values. He also stressed the need to instil values of patriotism, service and social responsibility among the youth.
Gupta said the Bhagavad Gita was not merely a religious scripture but also a source of guidance for leading a purposeful life and understanding one’s duties.
Kangra MP Dr Rajiv Bhardwaj was also present on the occasion. A message from Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama was read out.
Swami Mitranand highlighted the 75-year journey of the Chinmaya Mission and the life and contributions of Swami Chinmayananda.
Senior Acharyas Param Shekhar Swami Madhavanand and Swami Anukulanand, Padma Shri recipient Kshama Maitreya, trustee Dr Rajan Gupta, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa and Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma, besides office-bearers, seekers and devotees of the Chinmaya Mission, attended the programme.
