Iyer says dew factor made 250-run target vulnerable

Ranchi, Oct 9 (UNI) India captain Shreyas Iyer said the dew factor and the narrow margin for error on the wicket made it difficult to defend a massive total, as the West Indies pulled off a historic chase to end India's 10-match winning streak under his leadership.
Iyer said there was no fixed total that could guarantee victory under such conditions, pointing out that even a target of 250 had been chased with two overs to spare.
"Honestly speaking, you cannot put a number to it, because when the dew factor comes in, it plays a massive role," Iyer said after the match.
He said the conditions left bowlers with very little room for error, with any delivery that missed its intended execution likely to disappear into the stands.
"The margin of error on this wicket is very minor. Any delivery, if you miss to execute it, was going on to the stands," he said, acknowledging the quality of the West Indies batting.
Admitting that India had missed a few opportunities, Iyer said such setbacks were part of the game and credited the visitors for their exceptional batting display.
"Credit where it's due, they batted amazingly, and kudos to them," he said.
Reflecting on India's batting performance, Iyer praised Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma for their contributions, saying their consistency and ability to take responsibility had helped the team establish a strong platform.
He also lauded Mayank for taking three crucial wickets, which, according to him, had helped India stabilise the contest before a decisive partnership shifted the momentum in the West Indies' favour.
"Those three crucial wickets stabilised the rhythm for us up ahead, but then after that, the partnership came in, and the momentum shifted towards them," Iyer said.
The defeat marked the end of Iyer's 10-match winning streak as India's captain, with the West Indies completing a remarkable chase despite India's imposing total.
