J&K: This Navratras, AI based cameras to keep surveillance on Katra-Bhawan route

Jammu, Oct 6 (UNI) As the Navratras are starting from October 11, Jammu and Kashmir Police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety of devotees with the installation of AI-based cameras to keep surveillance on every activity from Katra to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan nestled in the Trikuta Hills of Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Mukund Tibrewal, said that during Navratras this year, AI-based cameras have been installed from Katra to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan to identify and keep a watch on suspicious elements.
With only a few days left until the beginning of Navratras, notably, lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad are expected to reach Katra to pay obeisance at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine during the nine-day festival.
However, to ensure security, the security forces have made a comprehensive security plan to ensure the safety of devotees.
"The safety of pilgrims has been kept as the top priority during the holy days. Every day, more than 50,000 devotees visit the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine during Navratras," he said, adding that elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in Katra town as well, with anti-sabotage checks and access-control measures at every point.
The measures taken are aimed at detecting and neutralising any possible threat, said the SSP.
Besides, AI-based cameras have been installed in Katra town and along the route from Katra to the Bhawan to help manage crowds and keep a watch on suspicious persons, he added.
The top cop stated that around 500 modern AI-based cameras have been installed from Katra town to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, and these cameras will not only help in crowd management but will also alert the police immediately if any suspicious activity is spotted in the area.
"Cameras have also been installed in the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine complex for crowd management, while additional security personnel have been deployed in the area," he said.
This year, the grand Katra Navratra Festival is scheduled to take place from October 11 to 19 and is jointly organized by the Department of Tourism J&K and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
The nine-day festival transforms Katra—the base camp for the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine—into a hub of religious devotion, rich cultural pageantry, and public celebrations.
