JD(U) flexes political muscle in Kashi, Nishant Kumar calls for groundwork ahead of 2027 UP polls

Varanasi, Nov 1 (UNI) The ruling Janata Dal (United) in Bihar on Sunday launched an organisational expansion drive in Uttar Pradesh, holding a state-level workers' conference at Ramlila Maidan in Korauta, Varanasi, with a call to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Thousands of party workers attended the conference, which was addressed by Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar, JD(U) National Executive President and MP Sanjay Jha, senior Bihar Minister and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Shravan Kumar, Minister Mohammad Jama Khan and state party president Anup Singh Patel.
Addressing the gathering, Nishant Kumar urged party workers to begin preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and strengthen the organisation at the village, panchayat and booth levels.
He said politics should not be limited to capturing power but should focus on resolving people's problems and ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person in society.
Highlighting Bihar's development under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Nishant said the state has made significant progress in education, healthcare, women's empowerment and infrastructure. He said the JD(U) would take its message of good governance and social justice to the people of Uttar Pradesh as part of its organisational expansion.
He added that the party's senior leadership would decide its role in the 2027 Assembly elections at the appropriate time.
Sanjay Jha said Nitish Kumar has transformed Bihar's image and development trajectory since 2005. He called upon party workers to strengthen the organisation and expand its grassroots presence ahead of the upcoming elections.
Shravan Kumar stressed the need to highlight Bihar's development model in Uttar Pradesh, citing initiatives in education, healthcare and women's empowerment.
In a boost to the party's expansion efforts, Bharatiya Samaj Party president Vijay Kumar Rajbhar joined the JD(U) along with his supporters. He said he has decided to join the party after being impressed by Nitish Kumar's development-oriented approach and policies centred on social justice.
State president Anup Singh Patel said strengthening the party organisation down to the booth level remained its top priority ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
JD(U) MPs Kaushalendra Kumar and Sunil Kumar, along with party office-bearers and workers from various districts, were also present at the conference.
