Jharkhand HC orders traffic overhaul in Hazaribagh

Ranchi, Sep 29 (UNI) The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday issued a series of time-bound directions to improve traffic management in Hazaribagh, including operational trials of an automated traffic light system at 20 major intersections within four months.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice M S Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar directed the Hazaribagh Municipal Commissioner to complete works under the agreement signed with Keyhole Design Private Limited on August 19 for the automated traffic light management system.
The court said the trial would cover 20 major intersections, including District Court Chowk, Korrah Chowk, Matwari Chowk, Barkagaon More, District More, Indrapuri Chowk, Jhanda Chowk, Old Bus Stand Chowk and Kallu Chowk.
The bench also directed authorities to repair or replace non-functional CCTV cameras within four months and integrate junction and ANPR cameras with the Police Control Room. It ordered peak-hour deployment charts for traffic personnel at the identified intersections.
The court further ordered enforcement of the ban on entry of heavy and commercial goods vehicles into notified municipal limits between 8 am and 8 pm, except for essential services, and directed authorities to submit plans for designated parking and vending zones.
The court directed the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and Municipal Commissioner to file personal compliance affidavits within four months.
