Jharkhand: Hemant Soren to face charge framing on Sep 30

Ranchi, Sep 24 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren appeared virtually before the PMLA special court on Thursday in connection with the Badgai land case, with arguments on framing of charges scheduled for September 30.
During the hearing, Soren's counsel Sanjeev Sahay told the court that the list of documents marked as "unrelied documents" by the Enforcement Directorate was received only on Thursday and sought time to verify them.
The special court subsequently fixed September 30 as the next date of hearing, when arguments on the framing of charges will be taken up.
Soren also sought time, citing personal difficulties, according to his counsel.
The case relates to 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi's Badgai area. The PMLA special court had on June 8 rejected Soren's discharge petition, holding that a prima facie case was made out against him on the basis of material placed by the ED.
Soren had subsequently approached the Jharkhand High Court seeking relief from appearing before the special court. The High Court rejected his interlocutory application on September 18.
The special court has already framed charges against several co-accused in the case, including Antu Tirkey, architect Vinod Kumar Singh, former revenue sub-inspector Bhanu Pratap Prasad, Tapas Ghosh, Shekhar Kushwaha, Mohammad Saddam Hussain and others.
