Sikkim: After tunnel tragedy that claimed 25 lives, NHPC Director reviews Teesta-VI progress

Gangtok, Sep 24 (UNI) Director (Projects), National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), Sanjay Kumar Singh on Thursday visited the Teesta-VI Project to review its progress, preparedness for flushing accumulated toxic gases from HRT Faces 4A and 4B, and the subsequent resumption of work.
He reviewed the preparedness for flushing the gases with NHPC officials and representatives of M/s Patel Engineering and stressed that the operation must be carried out with all necessary safety measures in place.
Singh also visited the other HRT faces and the barrage site and reviewed the progress of ongoing works. He asked the team to make all-out efforts for timely completion of the project and emphasised close monitoring of critical activities, effective coordination among stakeholders, and the highest priority to safety and quality during execution.
The visit assumes significance following the July 20 accident inside the under-construction HRT, when 25 personnel were trapped after a sudden gas-related explosion generated dense fumes and toxic gases. All 25 bodies were subsequently recovered during the rescue operation. UNI MBN NST CDS
