Jharkhand launches special sanitation drive in Namkum under Swachhata Hi Seva

Ranchi, Oct 1 (UNI) Jharkhand Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Yogendra Prasad on Thursday called for greater public participation in sanitation and reduction of single-use plastic during a special cleanliness and awareness programme at Namkum block here.
The programme was organised under the Swachhata Hi Seva-2026 campaign of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), with a focus on public participation, plastic reduction and environmental protection.
Prasad said sanitation was a collective responsibility of the government and citizens and urged people to make cleanliness part of their daily routine.
He called for reducing the use of single-use plastic and adopting cloth bags as an alternative. Cloth bags were distributed among residents during the programme.
The minister also participated in a cleanliness drive at the programme site along with public representatives, officials and local residents.
As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, plantation was also undertaken to promote environmental protection.
Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary Abu Imran stressed the need to strengthen solid and liquid waste management in rural areas through community participation.
Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Mission Director Ranjita Hembram called for making the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign a sustained public participation and behavioural change initiative rather than a one-time programme.
