Jharkhand: Marandi seeks probe into allegations against DIG

Ranchi, Oct 1 (UNI) Jharkhand Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to order an independent probe into allegations of harassment, threats and obstruction of access involving a journalist's family in Ranchi's Ashok Nagar.
In a letter to Soren, Marandi referred to a complaint submitted by journalist Syed Sharif Ibrahim and his family to the Argora police station, alleging that Deputy Inspector General of Police Alok Priyadarshi had obstructed access to their residence and misused his position and influence.
According to the complaint, Ibrahim's family has been residing on its ancestral property in Ashok Nagar for nearly five decades and has been using an access road of about 40 feet in width. The family has claimed that the road is reflected in approved building plans and related records.
The complaint alleged that on September 28, Priyadarshi arrived at the location with security personnel and parked a vehicle in front of the family's main gate, allegedly obstructing access.
The complainant also alleged threats of false criminal cases, imprisonment and harm to family members, besides allegations of displaying a weapon and making objectionable remarks concerning religious identity.
Marandi sought an independent inquiry by a senior officer or an appropriate agency into the allegations. He also urged the government to ensure the safety of the complainant and his family.
He sought verification of the land ownership and related records, the approved building plan and the access road, besides an inquiry into the alleged obstruction, threats and the role of the police officer's security personnel.
Marandi said allegations against a senior police officer should be examined impartially on the basis of evidence and urged the Chief Minister to issue necessary directions in the matter.
