Journalists should embrace AI tech in professional duties: Srinivas Reddy

Hyderabad, Sep 21 (UNI) Telangana Media Academy Chairman K Srinivas Reddy on Monday called upon journalists to embrace technology and develop knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve their professional work.
Addressing a workshop on AI tools and techniques organised jointly by the Telangana Media Academy, DataLeads and the Google News Initiative at the Media Academy in Nampally, he said AI could help journalists streamline reporting, particularly in digital and social media, and deliver more content to readers and viewers in less time.
Journalists from prominent Telugu, English and Urdu newspapers and television channels participated in the workshop.
Resource person Udumula Sudhakar Reddy said journalists should remain lifelong learners and continuously update their knowledge.
He explained the applications, risks, methodologies, guidelines and basic concepts of AI in journalism.
Participants were introduced to tools including ChatGPT, Perplexity, NotebookLM, Google Gemini, Midjourney, Sora and Veo3 through presentations and practical demonstrations.
He cautioned that bias and misinformation could result from limitations in AI training data and improper prompt engineering.
Journalists should therefore use AI responsibly and adhere to professional ethics and established guidelines, he said.
