Juvenile among eight held as Amritsar Police busts three alleged arms networks; 15 pistols seized

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested eight people, including a 17-year-old juvenile, and recovered 15 allegedly illegal pistols after dismantling three arms supply networks, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.
Police identified the arrested adults as Satnam Singh alias Sukha, Bhalla Singh, Gautam Singh alias Billa, Manvir Singh alias Gurvir Singh, Jaskarandeep Singh alias Jassa, Simranjit Sandhu alias Billa and Abhi alias Bawa. Police withheld the identity of the juvenile. Police said 15 live cartridges and two cars allegedly used for criminal activities were also seized.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly linked to foreign-based arms smugglers and were procuring illegal weapons for further distribution to criminal elements in the region,” Yadav said, adding that investigators were working to establish the complete backward and forward linkages of the networks.
The recovered weapons included three .30-bore Beretta pistols made in Italy, one .30-bore PX-5 Storm, one Chinese-made .30-bore pistol, eight other .30-bore pistols and two .32-bore pistols, police said.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill said police made the arrests in three separate operations. In the first, Satnam alias Sukha and Bhalla Singh were intercepted while travelling in a car and five pistols and five live cartridges were recovered.
In the second operation, Gautam alias Billa, Manvir alias Gurvir and Jaskarandeep alias Jassa were arrested with seven pistols and 10 live cartridges, while their car was also impounded.
In the third operation, Simranjit alias Billa was arrested, following which Abhi alias Bawa and a juvenile were apprehended and three pistols were recovered.
“The accused were allegedly procuring illegal firearms from a common source and subsequently supplying the weapons at different locations,” Gill said. Three separate FIRs have been registered at Cantonment, Islamabad, and Chheharta police stations in Amritsar under provisions of the Arms Act, while further investigation is underway.
