Thiruvananthapuram, May 28 (UNI) Defending his remarks against the Kannada language, veteran actor Kamal Hassan clarified on Wednesday that it was a statement of love.
Actor and politician Kamal Hassan, who was here to promote his upcoming movie Thug Life, said a lot of historians have taught him history of language.
Saying that politicians including he have no qualifications to talk about language, he said let us leave all these very indepth discussions to historians, archaeologists and language experts.
Earlier, during the audio launch of his upcoming movie Thug Life in Chennai, Kamal Hassan made a comment that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil,' leading to protest from the people of Karnataka.
Responding to the controversial issue, he said, "My comment on Kannada was out of love and that love will never apologise. I didn't mean anything. Tamil Nadu is a state where a Menon has been our Chief Minister, where a Reddy has been our Chief Minister, a Tamil has been our Chief Minister, and a Kannadiga Iyengar has been our CM. Politicians are not qualified to talk about language."
Meanwhile, the BJP and pro-Kannada groups have raised protests and demanded an apology from the actor immediately on the issue. They also threatened to boycott his film to be released on June 5, 2025. UNI DS SSP
