Kerala: Congress alleges CPI(M)-BJP deal on ED cases

Thiruvananthapuram, May 27 (UNI) Alleging that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had failed to arrest CPI(M) leaders involved in an alleged Rs 180 crore Karuvannur Bank fraud case, senior Congress leader and AICC Working Committee member Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday accused the Marxists and the BJP of having entered into a "secret deal" for political gain.
Centre's ruling coalition spearhead BJP is using the ED as a tool to "blackmail" CPI(M) leaders involved in large-scale corruption cases in Kerala for political gains, he alleged.
The CPI(M) purposely disrupted the smooth celebration of the Thrissur Pooram for creating a political opportunity for the BJP to win the previous Lok Sabha election, he claimed.
It is also noteworthy that even after the victory of BJP candidate Suresh Gopi from Thrissur, the CPI(M) leaders involved in the Karuvannur Bank fraud case were not arrested.
The ED, which probed the controversial diplomatic gold smuggling case, could not make any breakthrough in the case, he alleged.
On Monday, the ED submitted a chargesheet in a special court in Kochi in connection with the 2021 Karuvannur Co-operative Bank money laundering case. ED named CPI(M) Thrissur district committee as an accused along with its eight party leaders, including Lok Sabha MP K Radhakrishnan, former state minister A C Moitheen and former Thrissur district secretary M M Varghese.
