Rape accused should be punished rigorously: Dy. CM

Vijayawada, May 28 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday asked the Director General of police Harish Kumar Gupta and the Home Minister V Anitha to take steps to ensure that the person, who raped and killed a three-year-old girl was punished rigorously.
In a statement here, Pawan Kalyan expressed shock over the rape and murder of the three-year-old girl at Kambaladinne village of Mylavaram mandal in YSR Kadapa district a few days ago. The Deputy Chief Minister revealed that the police have already arrested the perpetrator, registered a case under the POCSO Act and are conducting a full investigation.

It is shameful that a person, who was said to be a relative of the three-year-old girl, committed the heinous crime. He said that the incident moved him severely. Voicing concern over the raising of such incidents, Pawan Kalyan emphasised that the perpetrators should be punished stringently.

Pawan Kalyan stated that he had come to know about the incident through the authorities. The Deputy Chief Minister, who expressed his deep sympathy to the child's family, assured that the coalition government would take full responsibility for ensuring that the accused is punished rigorously.

Pawan Kalyan opined that the entire society needs to wake up to stop such atrocities being committed against children and that such incidents can be prevented in the future only by imposing strict punishment on the culprits.

"The brutal rape and murder of a child named Asifa in Kathua in the past deeply disturbed me. Then, I came out on the road and fought. I strongly wanted such incidents not to be repeated. However, if such atrocities are happening again, it could be because the accused have confidence that they can escape the law," Pawan Kalyan felt. UNI DP SSP
