Leopard attacks farmer in Peth taluka

Nashik, Nov 4 (UNI) A farmer was injured after being attacked by a leopard while working in his agricultural field in the Jale Shivar area of Peth taluka on Wednesday morning.
The injured farmer, identified as Yashwant Tukaram Chaudhary (50), a resident of Zhadipada, is undergoing preliminary treatment at the Rural Hospital in Peth. The forest department has been alerted.
The incident took place at around 7 am in agricultural Group No. 105 in Jale Shivar. According to preliminary information, Chaudhary was engaged in farm work when a leopard suddenly attacked him, triggering panic among farmers, agricultural labourers and residents of the surrounding villages.
According to information reportedly shared by the injured farmer, the leopard was a female and was accompanied by three cubs. However, the Forest Department is yet to officially verify this information.
The presence of a female leopard with cubs could pose an additional safety concern, as the animal may become aggressive if it perceives a threat to its young. Farmers and agricultural workers have therefore been advised to remain particularly cautious while working in the fields.
Following the incident, demands have been raised for the Forest Department to immediately inspect the area, increase patrolling, monitor the leopard's movements and take necessary preventive measures. Residents have also sought awareness programmes to educate villagers about safety precautions.
Residents have been advised not to approach, chase or attempt to photograph or record the leopard or its cubs. They have also been urged to avoid unnecessary gatherings in the area, ensure that children do not venture out alone, and advise farmers against visiting fields alone while remaining alert to their surroundings.
In case of a leopard sighting, residents should maintain a safe distance and immediately inform the Forest Department. They have also been asked to strictly follow all safety instructions issued by the Forest Department and local administration.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of farmers and agricultural labourers amid increasing wildlife movement in rural areas.
