Massive fire destroys sugarcane crop in Taloda; Short circuit suspected

Nandurbar, Nov 3 (UNI) A massive fire broke out in a sugarcane field in the Akkalkuwa Road area of Taloda city in Maharashtra following a suspected short circuit, destroying nearly 2.5 acres of standing sugarcane belonging to a former army personnel turned farmer Rajendra Dhondu Mali.
The incident caused significant financial losses to the farmer, as the crop was nearing harvest. The fire brigade personnel and local farmers made strenuous efforts to control the blaze. However, due to the rapid spread of the fire, the entire crop was destroyed before the flames could be brought under control.
The incident has triggered strong resentment among local residents over the functioning of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).
Farmer Rajendra Mali has demanded that the concerned authorities conduct an immediate assessment of the damage and provide adequate compensation.
Residents have also urged the electricity department to inspect power lines regularly and take preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future. UNI BHG CDS
