LS Speaker Om Birla to inaugurate Commonwealth Parliamentary Assn Conference at Dharamshala June 30

Dharamshala, June 28 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the annual conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region, Zone II, on June 30, here at Tapovan.
The event will bring together delegates from the states of Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab, which fall under this zone.
The inaugural session will be attended by prominent dignitaries including Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh, Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan.
The central theme of the two-day conference is “Good Governance in the Digital Era: Resource Management, Safeguarding Democracy, and Embracing Innovation.”
Delegates will deliberate on significant legislative and constitutional topics through plenary sessions and focused discussions. Key topics include "The role of legislatures in managing state resources and contributing to state development", "Provisions of disqualification on grounds of defection under the Tenth Schedule, as per Articles 102(2) and 191(2) of the Constitution" and " Integration of Artificial Intelligence in legislative functioning".
The Valedictory Session on July 1 will be graced by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, who will deliver the concluding address.
Adding a unique dimension to the proceedings, a special spiritual dialogue with the Dalai Lama is also being organized, offering a reflective and peaceful undertone to the conference.
The CPA aims to strengthen democratic institutions, foster dialogue on best practices, and encourage innovation in governance and legislative processes. Globally, the CPA comprises nine regions, including India, each divided into zones. Zone II of the India Region encompasses the participating northern states.
The conference underscores CPA's commitment to promoting parliamentary democracy and cooperation among legislators across the Commonwealth.

Patwari suspended in Bharatmala land scam found hanging, Congress demands CBI probe
