Maha: Expired medicines from 2021 found in Amravati ZP store; FDA seals stock

Mumbai, Sep 26 (UNI) The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized and sealed a stock of expired medicines found at the drug store of the Amravati Zilla Parishad, officials said today.
The action followed a complaint by Samir Jawanjal, after which an FDA team inspected the Zilla Parishad's drug store department.
During the inspection, medicines that had expired in 2021 were found stored in a room of the Leprosy Department. The stock was immediately sealed in the presence of FDA officials for further examination.
The inspection also found that six air-conditioners installed in the medicine store were switched off.
The Zilla Parishad drug store supplies medicines to government hospitals and primary health centres under its jurisdiction. The discovery of expired medicines has raised concerns over their storage and whether any such medicines were supplied to health facilities.
The complainant has demanded a detailed inquiry into the matter and strict action against those responsible. He has also appealed to Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule to order a probe.
FDA Assistant Commissioner Dr Anil Manikrao confirmed the seizure and said further action would be taken after examining the seized stock and relevant records.
