Maha: Fight will continue until the destructive Vadhavan Port project is scrapped: Sapkal

Mumbai, Oct 30 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Harshvardhan Sapkal said that the Vadhavan Port project in Palghar district is not in Maharashtra's interest and threatens the livelihoods of local residents, farmers and fishermen.
The people in Delhi, whom he referred to as 'Ranga Billa', are not interested in developing Palghar but in advancing Adani's interests, and this is why the project has been brought forward, he said.
"The fight launched by local residents will not end until the destructive Vadhavan Port project, which threatens Maharashtra's interests and will destroy the livelihoods of local communities, is scrapped. The Congress party will stand firmly with the people and participate in the struggle with all its strength," Sapkal said.
Sapkal was speaking at the 'Ulgulan Vadhavan Port Virodhi Janakrosh' public meeting held at Varor Vadhavan in Palghar district.
Shiv Sena MLA Ambadas Danve, former MLA Hitendra Thakur, former MLA Kapil Patil, Deepak Pawar, Congress district president Satyam Thakur, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress general secretaries Brij Kishor Dutt, Manish Ganore and Dhananjay Shinde, along with representatives of various organisations and thousands of people, were present.
Sapkal further said that Rahul Gandhi had taken the initiative to bring various ongoing protests across the country onto a common platform, with 36,000 protests registered under his campaign, of which 3,500 are taking place in Maharashtra.
These protests concern issues such as education, healthcare, land and the environment.
Although the protests are taking place on different issues, they have a common adversary, he said.
"If the struggle against Vadhavan succeeds, it will be a victory for all these movements. But unless the small port of the 56-inch figure in Delhi is removed, this port too will not go," Sapkal said, in an apparent reference to the Prime Minister.
