Maha: Former MLA Ahire passes away

Nashik, Apr 30 (UNI) Former MLA of Baglan assembly constituency, Lahanu Bala Ahire died here on Wednesday due to old age.
He was 95, and is survived by his wife and three sons.
Born on June one, 1930, in the remote tribal village of Jad on the Gujarat-Maharashtra border, Lahanu Ahire studied up to class 7 and then learned agriculture at Kosbad.
He worked as a teacher at Khajuranya village in Dang, Gujarat and later as a Talathi at Garkud (Gujarat).

Mentored by freedom fighter Dadasaheb Bidkar, Dalit friend and former MLA Pandit Dharmaji Patil, he was elected as a Zilla Parishad member in 1984. Later, he was elected as an MLA from Baglan assembly constituency on a Congress party ticket from 1990 to 95.
During his tenure as MLA, he had implemented developmental works such as construction of roads, water supply schemes, electricity, primary schools, Anganwadis, health centre buildings, etc.
In recognition of his work, the government had awarded him the Adivasi Sevak Award.
His funeral will be held at his native village of Jad (Tal. Baglan) on Thursday (tomorrow).
