Maha: Waqf Act protest; Blackout observed in parts of Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 30 (UNI) Members of the Muslim community, along with various groups, joined the protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on Wednesday by turning off lights in homes, offices and community spaces in city.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and various Muslim organisations had called for countrywide protests where it appealed to the people to switch off the lights from 9 PM to 9:15 PM on Wednesday night against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
In Mumbai, the protests were observed in the Muslim-dominated ares of Nagpada, Bhendi Bazar, Dongri, Muhammad Ali Road and other areas.
Abu Azmi, Samajwadi Party MLA from Maharashtra, also shared images of a show of solidarity from Colaba.
Heavy police bandobast was deployed in the various parts of the city as a preventive measure.
Advocate Yusuf Abrahani, former MLA and Samajwadi party leader, claimed that it was a successful protest and this protest will give PM Narendra Modi's government a message that this Act will destroy the Waqf Board.
The law that was made is unconstitutional, he added.
