Maha Govt to extend every possible support to distressed farmers due to drought-like conditions: CM

Nagpur, Sep 19 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday assured that the state government would extend every possible support to farmers facing hardship due to drought-like conditions triggered by an extended dry spell in several parts of Maharashtra.
Speaking to reporters here, Fadnavis said the government has already directed all ministers to assess the agricultural situation in their respective districts.
A preliminary review of crop losses is scheduled for next week, after which detailed panchnamas will be undertaken to facilitate the disbursal of immediate relief to affected farmers.
He said the crop loan waiver programme is progressing steadily, with three beneficiary lists already released. The remaining lists are being finalised on priority, and officials have been instructed to expedite the process.
The Chief Minister noted that anticipating the possible impact of El Niño, the government had initiated fodder cultivation measures well in advance. Necessary arrangements have also been made to ensure fodder availability and protect drinking water supplies in vulnerable regions.
To help farmers preserve standing crops through irrigation, the state has arranged additional electricity supply during evening hours. Directions have also been issued to ensure uninterrupted power availability in areas dependent on single-phase electricity connections.
Responding to opposition criticism over drought management, Fadnavis said relief measures are being implemented in accordance with existing government resolutions and standard operating procedures. Compliance with these norms is necessary to secure financial assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), he added.
He further maintained that while following central guidelines, the Maharashtra government is simultaneously undertaking its own relief initiatives to provide timely assistance to distressed farmers across the state.
