Maha: IAC chief praises Modi govt's efforts to keep fuel prices stable amid global uncertainty

Pune, Nov 2 (UNI) The Centre's efforts to maintain fuel price stability amid global uncertainties by modifying the windfall tax on fuel exports are commendable, Hemant Patil, national president of India Against Corruption and an RTI activist, said today.
The government has taken steps to ensure that global political instability, the conflict in West Asia and fluctuations in international crude oil prices do not adversely affect the Indian economy, he said.
He said the government's efforts were particularly important during the festive season, as they aimed to prevent an additional financial burden on ordinary consumers due to fuel price increases.
The Centre has revised the windfall tax on exports of petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) with effect from October 31. The tax on petrol exports has been reduced from Rs 2.50 per litre to zero, while the levy on diesel exports has been increased from Rs 8.50 to Rs 11.50 per litre. The tax on aviation turbine fuel exports has been raised from Rs 10.50 to Rs 11 per litre.
Patil said there had been no change in the existing tax rates on petrol and diesel sold for domestic consumption, noting that the move was aimed at maintaining adequate fuel availability in the domestic market.
He said ensuring uninterrupted domestic fuel supplies while regulating additional gains arising from exports was an important aspect of the government's policy. Stable fuel prices, he added, could help contain inflationary pressures on transportation, agriculture, industry and everyday life.
The government's approach to balancing domestic fuel availability, market stability and consumer interests amid fluctuations in the international energy market was a positive step, Patil added. UNI SP SS
