Maha: Shiv Sena MLA Thorve challenges NCP's Sunil Tatkare to quit govt before opposing Torrent project

Raigad, Nov 2 (UNI) Shiv Sena MLA Mahendra Thorve has challenged NCP state president and MP Sunil Tatkare, saying that if the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) wants to oppose the proposed Torrent Power project through its Raigad district president Sudhakar Ghare, it should first withdraw from the ruling government.
Thorve was reacting to an agitation organised by NCP Raigad district president Sudhakar Ghare against the Torrent Power project in the Karjat region. He also accused the Tatkare family of supporting the project-related protests while allegedly pursuing a liquor factory project in Khalapur taluka.
“Sunil Tatkare is part of the ruling government. The Torrent project has received approval from the Central Government as well as Chief
Minister Devendra Fadnavis. If Tatkare, as the NCP state president, wants to oppose a state government project while his daughter is a minister in the state government, he should first quit the government and then come forward to oppose it. We are ready for a debate on the issue,” Thorve said.
He alleged that a liquor manufacturing unit was being established at Ujaloli in Khalapur taluka through a partnership involving Tatkare's son Aniket and his brother-in-law. Thorve claimed that the project was being pursued despite opposition from the Chilthan Gram Panchayat and alleged irregularities in obtaining no-objection certificates (NOCs).
“If you are genuinely concerned about the people, first ensure that this factory is shut down. Despite opposition from the local gram panchayat, work on the liquor factory is progressing. However, nobody from the NCP is coming forward to oppose it,” he alleged.
Targeting Sudhakar Ghare, Thorve said that instead of protesting against the Torrent project, Ghare should first demand the closure of the proposed liquor factory. “He should first go and shut down the liquor factory being established by his leader's family. After that, we will stand shoulder to shoulder with him, Thorve said.
The Shiv Sena MLA also criticised the NCP leadership for opposing development projects in the region, alleged that the party was consistently trying to obstruct projects and that Sunil Tatkare was encouraging such opposition.
"We are maintaining our composure. You have already suffered defeat, and the people of Karjat constituency have rejected you. Yet, the only activity being pursued everywhere is opposition to development projects, with Sunil Tatkare backing such protests,” Thorve added.
