Maha: Minister advocates for making women financially empowered & literate through self-help groups

Kolhapur, May 19 (UNI) Maharashtra and District Guardian Minister Prakash Abitkar on Monday stressed on giving encouragement to the self-help groups in the state and emphasised on making women financially empowered and literate through the SHGs.
While speaking at a gathering of beneficiaries of the Mahila and Awas Yojana organised by the District Rural Development Agency, Zilla Parishad at Arjunwada in Radhanagari tehsil of the district, he said that through the UMEDA campaign, the District Rural Development Agency has done effective work for economic empowerment of women in rural areas.
Underscoring the need for stopping exploitation of women by microfinance institutions at the village level, he called for more efforts to make women financially literate by expanding the scope of economic cycle of savings groups.
He further said that in the future, self-help groups that do good work will be honoured with awards and honours.
Women should take initiative for the progress of their families by utilising various schemes of UMEED, the minister appealed.
The work of 50,000 shelters in the district is set to be completed by January 26, 2026, he added.

Kedgaon, Lonand stations in Pune Division redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
