Maha: Minister emphasises on road safety to prevent accidents

Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Monday underscored importance of road safety to prevent accidents and directed concerned officials to formulate rules on priority for utilisation of funds from the Road Safety Fund.
Presiding over a meeting held at Mantralaya here, while giving instructions to give top priority to road safety, he said that for this, widespread public awareness should be created, brand ambassadors should be appointed for public awareness campaigns, directional boards be installed on all roads as well as marking necessary signs as zebra crossings on the roads.
To increase the income of the State Transport Corporation, he suggested that a draft of an advertising policy should be prepared.
The Corporation could get more income through advertising and parcel services, he said and asked the Corporation to consider implementing projects like cold storage to increase income.
Sarnaik also suggested to build closed ST shelters in order to protect passengers from heat, wind and rain, and these shelters should be built on PPP (public-private partnership) basis, he added.
