Maha: Symbiosis Skills & Professional University launches BTech in Defence Technology

Pune, June 7 (UNI) Just as ‘Make in India’ is essential for nation-building, the defence technology plays a vital role in achieving the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), said Manish Bhardwaj, Technical adviser to the chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), here on Saturday.
Speaking at the event organised for newly introduced BTech in Defence Technology programme by Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU), here, he said that Operation Sindoor has highlighted significance of the armed forces and indigenous technology.
The entire nation has witnessed the strategic importance of DRDO-developed systems such as missiles like Akash and BrahMos, radar systems and drones, he said and pointed that however, there is still a significant need for skilled human resources in this sector.
Students should aim not just for a successful career, but for active participation in nation-building, said Bhardwaj.
For the purpose of nation-building, more research and innovation must be carried out in the field of defence technology, he said.
As times change, companies, academic institutions and researchers must collaborate and take greater responsibility for the nation’s development, he added.
Speaking at this programme, Dr Swati Mujumdar, pro-chancellor of Symbiosis Skills and Professional University, remarked, “India is progressing steadily on the path of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India. The Sindoor operation proved to be extremely important for national security and highlighted the urgent need for advancements in the defence sector. This newly launched programme will give students a fresh direction in their careers..."
On this occasion, Dr Mujumdar signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with two companies — Vasundhara Geo Technologies, represented by Advait Kulkarni, and DSA Electro and Design, represented by director Ashok Subhedar.
