Maha to induct Army, Air Force Agniveers into state police: Fadnavis

Nagpur, Oct 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that Agniveers completing their tenure in the Army and the Air Force will also be given opportunities to join the state police force.
"Agniveers who wish to join Maharashtra police, will be inducted into the force. He declared that the government will provide jobs for Agniveers from the Army and the Air force to join the state police force," he said while speaking to reporters here on Friday.
Fadnavis said the state government had already inducted the first batch of Navy Agniveers into the coastal security wing of the Maharashtra Police.
He said these personnel had undergone extensive training and served in challenging terrains and along the borders. Their experience and skills would help strengthen coastal security and benefit the police force, he pointed.
Fadnavis further said the government had amended the existing recruitment rules to facilitate their induction.
The Navy Agniveers were directly appointed without having to undergo fresh police recruitment tests, as they had already cleared a rigorous selection process and received specialised training during their military service.
The Chief Minister said the government would also provide similar opportunities to Agniveers returning from the Army and the Air Force who wish to join the Maharashtra Police.
In a post on X, Fadnavis also announced the appointment of 282 Maharashtra-resident Navy Agniveers as police constables.
The group comprises 150 Seaman Deckside and 132 Seaman Engineside personnel, and appointment orders have been issued to them, he added.
The Agnipath scheme allows young recruits to serve in the Army, Navy or Air Force for four years, after which they may pursue employment opportunities in the civilian sector.
