Maha: Uddhav Thackeray questions when mystery surrounding Munde’s death be resolved

Mumbai, Sep 17 (UNI) Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray today questioned when the mystery surrounding the death of late BJP leader and former union minister Gopinath Munde would be resolved, while clarifying that he was not making an allegation against anyone.
Thackeray, who is currently on a tour of the Marathwada region, raised the issue while addressing a press conference. He also expressed regret that Munde, after taking oath as a union minister, could not attend Parliament even for a single day.
"At that time, there was a suspicion and a discussion about how our man had died. Initially, there was a lot of discussion, but the issue subsequently went quiet. I feel that the reason behind his death and the mystery surrounding it have still not been resolved. I am not making allegations against anyone," he said.
The UBT Sena chief said his earlier remarks were based on questions that had arisen at the time and maintained that his suspicion could also be wrong.
"My suspicion may be wrong. I am not saying that I have a suspicion; I am saying that the mystery has not been solved and an answer has not been received. Similar doubts are being raised about Ajit Pawar's accident. Such doubts should be investigated," he said.
Recalling Munde's contribution to Maharashtra politics, Thackeray said the late BJP leader and Pramod Mahajan had played an important role in introducing the BJP to his party and strengthening the BJP's roots in Maharashtra.
"The untimely deaths of Pramod Mahajan and Gopinath Munde were unfortunate. They were the ones who introduced us to the BJP. They sowed the seeds of the BJP in Maharashtra. Pramodji was at the forefront of the Rath Yatra," he remembered.
He further said it was unfortunate that Munde could not enter the House (Parliament) even once after taking oath as a minister.
"Maharashtra had a leader from Marathwada who could have delivered justice to the state, but he could not even enter the House," he lamented.
In an earlier speech during his Marathwada tour, Thackeray had alleged that there was an attempt to ensure that the region was left without a strong political leader and had referred to Munde's death while making the remarks.
Asked to elaborate on those comments at the press conference, he reiterated that he was seeking answers rather than directly accusing anyone.
The issue of Munde's death has previously generated public discussion and speculation. Munde died in a road accident in New Delhi in June 2014, shortly after becoming a union minister.
Thackeray also launched a strong attack on the Maharashtra government over the drought situation in the state.
Questioning the government's preparedness, the former chief minister asked whether the authorities had no prior information about the developing situation and why measures similar to those taken by the Karnataka government had not been undertaken.
"You are the rulers of the state. Did you have no information about the situation? Why did you not make preparations like the Karnataka government?" he asked.
