Maha: Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan to inaugurate 38th Pune Festival on Sep 18

Pune, Sep 17 (UNI) Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the 38th Pune Festival at Shri Ganesh Kala-Krida Rangmanch, Swargate, here on Friday.
Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Pune Festival patron Hema Malini, union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai and former union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will attend the inaugural ceremony.
The festival has been dedicated to the memory of its founder-president and former Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi. A nine-minute film highlighting his contribution to the festival will be screened during the ceremony.
Veteran actor Mohan Joshi will receive the newly instituted Suresh Kalmadi Pune Festival Lifetime Achievement Award. Filmmaker Kiran Shantaram, theatre director Atul Pethe, former Indian women's hockey association president Arnavaz Damania and Flying Officer Nidhi Sudhir Agarwal will receive Pune Festival Awards. Ranamard Shivaji Mandal and Shri Hanuman Mandal Pratishthan will also be felicitated for completing 100 years of public Ganeshotsav celebrations.
The inaugural programme will feature cultural performances, including shehnai recital, Ganesh Vandana, Maharashtra Sanman Geet, Vande Mataram, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Chak De India and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje.
The event will be compered in Marathi by Rahul Solapurkar and in English by Sameera Gujar.
As part of the ‘Andha Mukt Pune’ initiative, special counters will be set up at festival venues in association with Alliance Club to facilitate registration for eye donation.
