Maha: Woman killed by husband following family dispute in Dehugaon

Pune, Sep 22 (UNI) A woman was allegedly killed by her husband with a sharp weapon following a prolonged family dispute at Omkar housing society in Pune's Dehugaon town, police said.
The accused, identified as Akash Barskar, an IT company employee, was also injured after allegedly attacking himself and jumping from the balcony of their second-floor flat.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday. Upon receiving the information about a man lying injured below the building, the Police rushed to the spot. Akash was found seriously injured, while his wife, Shubhangi Barskar, was found unconscious with severe injuries inside their residence.
Both were taken to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared Shubhangi dead, while Akash is undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the couple had been involved in a family dispute for nearly a year. Police suspect that during an argument, Akash attacked Shubhangi on her neck with a sharp weapon, seriously injuring her. He allegedly then inflicted injuries on himself with a blade before jumping from the second-floor balcony.
Akash and Shubhangi had married in December 2023 and had been living in a rented house in Dehugaon for the past few months. Police are investigating reports that the couple had disagreements over Akash's decision to purchase agricultural land in his native village, which was allegedly opposed by Shubhangi.
Hence, the investigation has also brought to light questions regarding the information initially provided to police.
According to reports, Akash allegedly claimed that robbers had entered the house after the incident, prompting suspicion among investigators. Statements from residents indicating that the couple had been arguing before the incident reportedly led police to examine his account more closely. Police are verifying reports that Akash subsequently admitted to attacking his wife.
Based on a complaint filed by Shubhangi's father, Dehuroad police have registered a case of murder against Akash under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
As Akash is currently undergoing treatment, further legal proceedings will follow after his condition improves. Police are investigating the exact motive behind the killing, the circumstances leading to the dispute and the sequence of events preceding his alleged attempt to take his own life.
