Mamata greets Kaliganj voters for voting TMC candidate

Kolkata, June 23 (UNI) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday congratulated the voters of Kaliganj assembly constituency in Nadia for mandating ruling Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed in the bypoll for which the counting was in progress showing TMC a clear winner.

Twenty-eight-year-old Alifia Ahmed was leading by over 31,000 votes to her nearest rival BJP's Ashish Ghosh after completing the 12th round and the Left Front-supported Congress candidate Kabil Udding Shekh.

According to sources, the TMC candidate has already taken an unassailable lead over her rivals.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee in a message greeted all the people of different faiths, castes and creed of the Kaliganj assembly constituency for reposing faith in the ruling party. also dedicated the win to 'Ma, Mati and Manush'.

The bypoll was held on June 19 in which some 73 per cent voters of out 2.5 lakh electors had exercised their voting right.

The bypoll was necessitated by the death of sitting TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed, father of the TMC candidate, earlier this year.
