Man held for stealing police walkie-talkie in Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 22 (UNI) Mumbai Police have arrested a man from Andheri for allegedly stealing a walkie-talkie from a police beat post in the Two Tank area, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident took place at a beat chowky under the jurisdiction of VP Road Police Station. Police noticed that the wireless communication device kept at the post was missing and registered a case before launching a search for the accused.
As part of the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from around 700 cameras installed at different locations. The extensive CCTV analysis helped investigators track the movements of the suspect, identified as Mohammad Niyaz alias Faizan.
Police eventually traced him to Andheri Railway Station and took him into custody for questioning.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that he took the walkie-talkie because its repeated ringing had irritated him. The stolen device was later recovered by the police.
The walkie-talkie is an important communication device used by police personnel to stay in contact with control rooms and other officers while on duty.
Police are now investigating the circumstances in which the accused entered the beat post and took the device. They are also checking whether he has been involved in any other thefts or similar incidents in the area.
Further investigation is underway, officials said.
