Manipur BJP in huddle over political developments

Imphal, June 28 (UNI) Manipur BJP leaders, including state party chief A Sharda Devi, former chief minister N Biren Singh, party MLAs and functionaries held a closed door meeting today in the state capital and took stock of the latest political developments. The discussions centred around restoration of a popular government in the state.
Manipur was placed under President's rule on Feb 13 last.
Biren said the BJP "will take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time" on the formation of government in the state. The Centre may take a decision after reviewing the ground situation, he added.
"The BJP is concentrating on resolving the present crisis in Manipur. For the last eight months there have been no reports of widespread ethnic clashes in the state", he said.
BJP's central leadership is also trying to bring about an amicable solution to the present crisis, sources said, adding party leaders have been in touch with stakeholders to ensure return of normalcy and peace.
"Peace is a prerequisite for political activities to start," Biren said.
"In the initial stages of the crisis, people were not aware about the problems caused by illegal migration and drug cartels in Manipur," he said. "We are trying to resolve issues that stem from such activities," he added.
