Meghalaya CM releases Rs 104.48 cr post-matric scholarship for ST students

Shillong, Oct 14 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday released the final instalment of the Umbrella Post-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students for 2025–26, amounting to Rs 104.48 crore, benefiting 96,801 students across the state.

Sangma released the scholarship at a programme held at St. Anthony’s College in the presence of Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai, and senior government officials.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the renovated Postgraduate (PG) Block Biotechnology Department and Bio-Informatics Lab, upgraded campus amenities, RUSA 2.0 equipment, and a computer lab under the CM Skills Mission at the institution.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister expressed his happiness at releasing the scholarship for the academic year 2025–26, stating that the government was able to live up to students' expectations and fulfil some of their needs and aspirations.
Sangma urged all students to use this scholarship responsibly and positively towards their education, learning resources, and personal development.
“Students who have not completed their Aadhaar linkage are also requested to do so at the earliest to ensure they receive their scholarship without delay,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the process of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) has already been initiated.
Sangma said he has directed all concerned departments to monitor, correct, and re-process every pending case until each eligible student is paid in full.
“I urge students whose payment has not been credited to confirm through their institution that their bank account is active and seeded with Aadhaar,” he said.
Sharing insights on governance and education, the Chief Minister told the students that they are the "most important part" of the administration and remain at the heart of all government decision-making.
Sangma further explained how policies are structured with the welfare of youth and students in mind.
