Meghalaya govt inks MoU with Mothers’ Union to enhance education standards

Tura, June 19 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday reiterated his government’s commitment to education during the Education Conclave held in Tura.
The conclave brought together stakeholders and government officials on interventions to upscale the standard of education in the state.
A significant highlight of the conclave was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mothers’ Union Tura for the management of 20 Government Lower Primary (LP) Schools.
The collaboration aims to enhance learning outcomes through community engagement and shared responsibility.
During the conclave, several key initiatives were launched, including the Meghalaya School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (MSQAAF) and the CM IMPACT Meghalaya Learning Enhancement Programme (M-LEP). Educational tablets were also distributed to students with special educational needs.
“The government is keen to work in collaboration with the community. A collaboration would mean to work in partnership with the government to improve learning outcomes,” the Chief Minister said.
With 18 lakh youth under 20, Sangma said, “Meghalaya will soon have the youngest population in India. That is both a huge opportunity and a serious challenge. We can either shape a productive, skilled youth or risk creating a lost generation. The choice is ours, and education is the key.”
However, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of equipping youth with quality education and skills to harness the demographic dividend effectively.
Exhorting all stakeholders to work together to find solutions to the challenges facing the education sector and to focus on positively contributing to the state's development, Sangma reminded that education is a critical pillar of the government's development agenda and that the state is committed to investing in its youth.
The conclave provided a platform for brainstorming and discussion on how to improve the education sector, with a focus on finding solutions and working together to achieve common goals.
Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, Vice-Chancellor of Captain Williamson Sangma State University Dr. Vasanthi Vijaykumar, and other senior officials were also present at the event.
