Minister Yadav pushes faster rollout of EV buses, charging stations in UP’s NCR areas

New Delhi, Sept 18 (UNI) Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav has called for expediting the deployment of electric buses and installation of EV charging stations across municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh’s National Capital Region (NCR) areas, as part of measures to curb air pollution ahead of the winter season.
Reviewing the state’s air pollution control measures with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior officials in Lucknow on Friday, Yadav said the gaps in the existing electric bus fleet needed to be addressed on priority.
The meeting focused on measures to reduce pollution from transport, road dust, industries, construction and demolition waste, biomass burning and other sources before the onset of winter, when air quality in the Delhi-NCR region typically deteriorates.
Yadav also sought faster replacement of old and polluting vehicles with electric vehicles under the Parivartan Scheme.
On end-of-life vehicles, he asked authorities to expedite issuance of no-objection certificates for transfer of eligible vehicles outside NCR while encouraging scientific scrapping of old and unfit vehicles.
To strengthen enforcement against polluting vehicles, Yadav called for installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems at all fuel stations for implementation of the “No PUCC, No Fuel” initiative.
The minister also directed officials to identify traffic congestion hotspots and implement mitigation measures, linking better traffic management with efforts to reduce vehicular emissions.
On road dust, Yadav sought priority action on pothole repairs, construction of footpaths, roadside greening and deep cleaning of roads.
He also called for closing gaps in the deployment of mechanical road sweeping machines and geo-tagging the machines for real-time monitoring.
The minister stressed that the period before winter should be used for “mission mode” implementation of pollution-control measures, with stronger coordination between agencies and strict enforcement.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the environment ministry, the Commission for Air Quality Management, Central Pollution Control Board and the Uttar Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, among others. UNI MBJ SAS
