Mock drill held at Hubballi airport to simulate war scenario

Hubballi, May 19 (UNI) A mock drill simulating war and emergency scenarios was conducted near Hubballi airport on Gokula Road on Monday, demonstrating the district’s preparedness for crisis response.
The exercise was led by deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu and coordinated in close collaboration with the Dharwad district police. As part of the simulation, authorities enforced a temporary power shutdown and activated five sirens to recreate blackout conditions, mimicking the response protocols during wartime or national emergencies.
Officials said the drill was aimed at assessing the effectiveness of emergency management strategies and enhancing inter-agency coordination.
Similar civil defence exercises were conducted in other parts of Karnataka and across India as part of "Operation Abhyaas," a nationwide emergency preparedness initiative launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs in response to heightened security concerns following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
For instance, Bagalkot district recently conducted a comprehensive mock civil defence drill, involving simulated bullet sounds and bomb explosions, prompting a realistic emergency response scenario involving multiple casualties.
Various emergency services, including police, fire brigade, home guards, traffic police, NCC commanders, and bomb disposal and dog squads, participated. The drill aimed to educate the public on emergency protocols, such as responding to sirens, handling bomb blast aftermath, rescuing individuals from debris, and providing emergency medical aid.
Similarly, Mangaluru International Airport conducted an emergency evacuation drill as part of the national-level civil mock drill initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The exercise aimed to assess preparedness and response capabilities during emergencies and was efficiently coordinated by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), including participation from all airport stakeholders.
