Mumbai To Get Three New Flyovers; CM Fadnavis To Inaugurate On Oct 22

Mumbai, Oct 21 (UNI) Mumbai’s road infrastructure is set to receive a boost with the inauguration of three flyovers built by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday.
The inauguration of the flyovers would mark an important step towards improving Mumbai’s transport infrastructure, strengthening road connectivity and easing traffic congestion on key routes.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the projects virtually at 1 PM. Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar will attend the function as chief guests, while Mayor Ritu Tawde will preside over the event.
The three projects include the railway overbridge near Sion railway station, the railway overbridge near Vidyavihar railway station and the flyover on the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) at Ratnagiri Hotel Junction in Goregaon East. The inauguration ceremony will be telecast live at the respective project locations.
The Sion railway overbridge has been reconstructed to replace a 112-year-old bridge that had become unsafe. The project was taken up under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-2) to facilitate the laying of the fifth and sixth railway lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kurla.
The railway portion of the bridge was constructed by the Railways using 54.5-metre-long semi-through steel girders weighing 496 tonnes, while the BMC handled the approach roads. The project has been completed four months ahead of its February 2027 deadline.
The 600-metre-long Vidyavihar railway overbridge connects Ramchandra Chemburkar Marg on the eastern side with LBS Marg on the western side in Ghatkopar. The bridge has a width ranging from 15.5 to 17.5 metres and is expected to reduce travel time in the area from around 30 minutes to 10 minutes, while easing congestion on the Ghatkopar flyover.
The 1.26-km-long flyover on the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road has three lanes in each direction. Located in Goregaon East, it connects General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg with Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Road towards Santosh Nagar.
The flyover is an important part of the larger Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project, which aims to connect Mumbai’s Eastern and Western Express Highways through twin tunnels. The project is expected to improve east-west connectivity and provide commuters with an additional route across the city.
