Nashik: Eknath Shinde announces support for farmers’ daughters’ weddings

Nashik, Oct 26 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made two major announcements during his visit to Trimbakeshwar on Monday, assuring support to drought-affected farmers and announcing that the Shiv Sena would take responsibility for food arrangements at all 13 akharas during the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.
Shinde visited the Jyotirlinga temple in Trimbakeshwar and interacted with saints and seers at the Anand Kumbh Sant Sammelan. Amid concerns over the drought situation in Maharashtra and the challenges faced by farmers, he announced that the Shiv Sena would help arrange the marriages of daughters of farmers facing financial difficulties due to the drought.
He also declared that the Shiv Sena would take responsibility for food arrangements at all 13 akharas during the upcoming Kumbh Mela. The announcements received an enthusiastic response, with saints applauding Shinde's assurances.
During the gathering, Shinde felicitated saints representing all 13 akharas and sought their views and expectations regarding the Kumbh preparations. He assured them that pending works would be completed at the earliest and that shortcomings in the preparations would be addressed.
Responding to questions over the need to organise the Kumbh Mela amid the drought, Shinde said the event takes place only once in several years and that it was Maharashtra's good fortune to welcome saints and seers from across the country.
He argued that the Kumbh Mela was not merely a public or religious celebration but also an opportunity to accelerate infrastructure development, generate employment and improve sanitation in the region.
Shinde emphasised that several important works, including efforts to make the Godavari River pollution-free, would be undertaken and completed within the stipulated timeframe.
“We stand firmly with the farmers. Any shortcomings in the Kumbh preparations will be addressed, and we will ensure that the Kumbh Mela is organised successfully,” he assured.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over the drought situation and the allocation of resources for the preparations for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
