MHADA's Lokshahi Din helps lottery winner secure flat possession

Mumbai, Oct 23 (UNI) An applicant who had paid the full cost of a flat allotted through a housing lottery but was denied possession over additional charges, secured the flat following intervention through MHADA's Lokshahi Din, an official statement said on Friday.
Dnyaneshwar Garkal was declared a successful applicant in the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority's (MHADA) Konkan Board lottery in 2021 under the 20 per cent Inclusive Housing Scheme.
Although he had paid the entire sale price, the developer demanded additional charges towards infrastructure development, delaying the handover of the flat.
After waiting for possession, Garkal raised the issue at the 22nd Lokshahi Din held on October 12, 2026.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, MHADA Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal directed the concerned officials to examine the additional charges and take immediate steps to ensure that the applicant received possession.
Following the intervention, the authorities acted promptly and Garkal was handed possession of the flat, the statement said.
MHADA said the case demonstrated the role of Lokshahi Din in addressing citizens' grievances and ensuring time-bound resolution of complaints.
Since January 2024, MHADA has been organising Lokshahi Din on the second Monday of every month at its headquarters in Bandra (East). A total of 22 programmes have been held so far under Jaiswal's chairmanship.
During the initiative, citizens can present their complaints directly in the presence of concerned officials. Jaiswal also reviewed the action taken on grievances discussed during previous sessions before each programme.
MHADA has urged citizens to participate in the initiative and use the platform to seek redressal of their grievances.
