Maha: Woman medical officer slapped by man in front of cops in Wardha

Wardha, Oct 23 (UNI) A woman medical officer was allegedly slapped by a man brought by police for a mandatory medical examination at a primary health centre in Wardha district of Maharashtra on Friday.
The incident occurred at the primary health centre in Talegaon Shyamji Pant village in Ashti tehsil, where Dr Shraddha Bhumre was on duty.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Qadir Ali Razzaq Ali, a local resident, was taken to the facility by police for a medical examination before his production in court.
Police said he was involved in several criminal cases.
After the examination, the police personnel asked him to sign the necessary documents.
He allegedly slapped Dr Bhumre shortly after signing the papers. The policemen present at the health centre intervened and restrained him.
The incident prompted strong reactions from government medical officers across the district.
A delegation of the Gazetted Medical Officers’ Association met Wardha District Collector Vanmathi C and submitted a memorandum seeking stringent action against the accused.
The matter has also been brought to the notice of the Maharashtra Association of Gazetted Medical Officers (MAGMO).
The doctors’ association raised concerns over the alleged failure of the five police personnel accompanying the accused to take adequate measures to prevent the assault.
It sought criminal action against the accused and appropriate disciplinary measures against the police personnel concerned.
The association warned of an agitation and announced that OPD services would remain suspended until appropriate action was taken in the matter.
