Bolstering coastal security: Maha Govt directly absorbs over 250 Navy Agniveers into State Police

Mumbai, Oct 23 (UNI) In a major move aimed at strengthening Maharashtra's maritime defence, the state government has decided to directly absorb more than 250 returning Indian Navy ‘Agniveers’ into the Maharashtra Police’s Coastal Police wing.
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that necessary amendments have been made to existing recruitment rules to facilitate the seamless induction of these trained personnel.
"The state government had resolved to absorb all returning Agniveers from Maharashtra who wish to join the Maharashtra Police. These personnel have undergone exceptionally rigorous military training and served at the borders. Their disciplined background and high operational capacity will make them invaluable assets to our police force," Fadnavis told reporters.
The Chief Minister highlighted that this initial intake represents the first batch of Navy Agniveers returning upon completion of their service tenure.
Addressing the state's long-standing requirement for specialized coastal defense capabilities, Fadnavis noted, "Building dedicated training infrastructure for coastal policing was an ongoing process. The induction of over 250 navy-trained Agniveers instantly equips us with a highly specialized, combat-ready workforce to safeguard our maritime borders."
Elaborating on the recruitment process, Fadnavis confirmed that the intake was conducted through a direct recruitment drive, granting candidates a complete waiver of standard police physical and written screening tests.
"Since these soldiers have already cleared some of the toughest selection tests to join the armed forces, subjecting them to fresh tests was unnecessary. Consequently, direct appointment orders have been issued to them," he added.
The decision sets a milestone for post-service integration of Agniveers into state law enforcement, significantly elevating coastal security across Maharashtra's vast shoreline.
